Retiree Center Holiday Luncheon 2017


 

You are cordially invited to a special retiree holiday program featuring a luncheon presentation by distinguished Professor Emerita of Music, Jesse Anne Owens; as well as a performance by an double octet of the Davis High School Madrigal choir. The lunch buffet will include medival-style dishes, to include beef bourguignon, chicken, or vegetarian selection, salad, beverages and dessert. 

Early registration is advised as seating is limited. Deadline to register is Monday, December 6. This event is generously underwritten by Carlton Plaza of Davis.

Dr. Jessie Ann Owens earned her Ph.D. from Princeton University in 1978. Following a post-doctoral Mellon fellowship at Columbia University and a fellowship from Villa I Tatti, the Harvard University Center for Italian Renaissance Studies, she joined the faculty of the Eastman School of Music, University of Rochester. In 1984 she moved to Brandeis University until 2006, when she became Dean of Humanities, Arts and Cultural Studies and Professor of Music at UC Davis. Owens has pursued a number of research interests within the field of Renaissance studies. Her early work focused on archival research about Italian Renaissance music. 

The Davis Madrigal Singers (founded in 1966) are an auditioned group of 28-32 high school students from Davis, California, that perform a wide variety of music dating from the 15th century to the present.
